How to STOP toxic thinking

Have you ever been daydreaming and all of the sudden your mind goes to a hurtful memory? Our mind has created patterns that will make you go to a certain way of thinking over and over. Our brain tends to remember bad things easier than good ones, this was useful throughout our species evolution, it helped recognize potential dangers and led to the species survival.

This way of thinking was useful in the past, but not anymore; today research shows that 84-92% of our thoughts are toxic or negative.

In order to live a happy, stress free life, we need to learn to stop toxic thinking.



1. Capture your thought.
If you can capture your thought in the first 30 seconds you can reject it before it moves into your memory file, developing the skill of capturing your negative thought before it becomes a memory will help you create and focus on positive thoughts.

2.Meditate.
Meditation is about acknowledging your thoughts as they come in and out but not attaching to them. Once you notice yourself dwelling on a negative thought, you can let it go and come back to your breath. To learn about the benefits of meditation click here.

3. Morning affirmations.
Studies suggest that positive repetitive thought enables recovery from depression and upsetting traumatic events, I wake up everyday and repeat to myself a list of affirmations, it's important to repeat this during the day but the reason you should start your day with these is because your mind is just waking up, and it is about to set the tone of your day.

4. Move!
