How to deal with change



All of us feel it at some point, whether it’s a break up, a new job or even school; change is a big part of life and it might make us feel sad, restless or even give us anxiety.


I know I hate change. I don’t like feeling like I’m losing something that, at some point, meant a lot to me; or having to adapt to a new environment. But in the most recent years, I’ve learned to accept change as a big part of us and now I even enjoy it. I got the biggest blessings in my life only by accepting and embracing change.





1. Accept it. Change is a big part of our lives, the sooner you accept this, and the better you’ll feel. Remember change isn’t easy but it gives us the opportunity to grow.


2. Let yourself wallow. This is a major advice I learned from Lorelai and Gilmore Girls! When Rory is facing her first break up, she refuses to wallow but in the end, it’s exactly what she needed. I was much like Rory; I hated crying and I felt like it made me weak. But with the years I’ve learned to accept the fact that, sometimes, letting ourselves feel the sadness is just what we need.  Pushing down those feelings will only make it worse. 



3. Ask for help. I know sometimes it’s difficult, especially if you’re the independent kind; but you don’t have to do this alone!


4. Blank canvas! See change as an opportunity, you have the pen in your hand, go ahead and write your story how you want it to be.

How to accomplish your dreams

"We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort." Jesse Owens 
 
There are certain steps you have to take in order to make your dreams come true. Here's what I learned.
 
1. Make a plan: know what you want and what you have to do to get there. If you want to be a youtuber, then you have to make videos; if you want to be a doctor you have to study hard. If you know what you have to do to accomplish your dreams then you're one baby step closer.
 
2. Start now: don't keep postponing it. You know what you want and, you know what you have to do. Now start doing it. The more you wait the longer it will take. Remember: "never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it, time will pass anyway."
 
3. Set short-term goals: this way you don't get discouraged because your goal isn't that far away. The secret is always to take baby steps.
 
4. Stay motivated: once I read a book by Jorge Bucay and there was this little story with a really deep meaning (just like every book by him), the best part of it was this quote that's been stuck in my head since I read it: "La magia solo dura mientras persiste el deseo." Now this one I dare you to translate yourself. But what this is saying is that, if we want magic to happen, we need to be persistent and work hard for our dreams; and always stay motivated. 
A good way to stay motivated is visualizing your goals, make an inspiration board or keep a journal.
 
5. Let everyone know what you're working for: always let your close ones know what your dream is and what you're working for. Turn to them for motivation and accept constructive criticism.
 
6. Work hard and never give up! You will get it one day. Remember "there's no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs."

You matter too

A few months ago I was talking to my friend about one of her therapy sessions, and she told me something that's been stuck in my head since then. It was a simple sentence: "you can get mad too."

It might sound silly but it's so true. We so often try to please everyone else, we try to make everyone else happy by all means, that we forget it's okay to be mad, it's okay to not like something; and most importantly, it's okay to express it!

You matter too, give yourself permission to feel things, need things, want things. 

Make time for yourself, treat yourself to something you like,  express your feelings and don't let anyone tell you, you're wrong for feeling something. You deserve it.

My skincare routine!

When I was younger I had  really bad acne, and the worst part of it is that I couldn't help but touch my face.
It got to a point where I had really dark scars on my cheeks and I had to put a lot of make up on to feel a tiny bit better.

One day I decided it had to end. I went to a good dermatologist and they helped me get rid of those scars and prevent future breakouts. They taught me how to take care of my skin and from that moment on, I've been extra careful with the products I use, which you can find in this post.


All the products I use are from BE+ but this is NOT a sponsored post. This is truly what I use twice a day. I'm not sure if you can find these products outside Spain, so if you're interested in any of the products check their website!


I start my skincare routine with this product to cleanse my face. This is such a gentle product, it leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. It can be used on all skin types including sensitive skin. To use, massage over the face and neck, using fingertips. Wipe away using a tissue or rinse off with warm water.


I follow up by applying the "anti-shine regulating emulsion". I'll probably say the same about everything from this brand because they are truly very gentle and light. It absorbs pretty fast into the skin, giving you a matt effect. I also use this as a primer before my make up.


Next I use the corrective serum. I started using this after summer last year. I have really sensitive skin and I got a dark spot from the sun. Since I started using this product, I've noticed how it's getting clearer!
*I only use this at night because it's recommended to avoid exposure to UV rays.


The eye cream I use every morning and every night, I love how silky soft this feels on my skin. It brightens the are increasing the light's ability to reflect on the skin. All of BE+ products are incredibly moisturizing, and their eye cream couldn't be better!



Once a week I mix the exfoliating powder with the cleanser to exfoliate the skin. Not much to explain but I couldn't be happier with the results!

How to boost your metabolism

Metabolism is the system that converts calories into energy. The faster your metabolism is, the more calories we burn off so helping your metabolism work is a good idea to lose weight and of course live a healthy life.

There are a lot of things that affect your metabolism, for example I have hypothyroidsm which makes it work slower since the thyroid glad does not produce enough thyroid hormone. 

I have here a list of a few things I do to boost my metabolism, other than taking the medicine the doctor gives me of course.



Sleep: not getting enough sleep is proven to slow metabolism.

Eat healthy fats: coconut oil, dark chocolate, avocado, fish...

Eat small meals every 3 hours: It's very common to think not eating equals weight loss but that's far from the truth. When you eat small meals every few hours, your metabolism is working all day. You'll be burning calories for hours!

Drink 2 liters of water everyday: after drinking that water your metabolism speeds up 30% within 10 minutes. Source: Webmd.com

Exercise: try a HIIT workout, HIIT can jumpstart metabolism and keep us burning calories long after the workout is over. You can see an example of this workout here.

Eat wisely: don't try restrictive diets, instead try to eat clean and switch to a healthy lifestyle. It's better in the long run.

Drink green tea: I must admit I'm not a big fan of tea but I try to have a cup of green tea everyday. Green tea is great for you because not only is it a natural antioxidant but it is proven to speed up your metabolism.

10 ways to turn around a bad day

I've been having a bad day today, it happens sometimes right? 
It rained a lot, I stepped on dog poopie (oops), when I tried to take out my dogs they wouldn't stop pulling, and the list goes on.

But I decided I wouldn't let that be my day, I thought: "how can I turn this day around so I don't go to bed crabby?" 

So I tried different things, here are some of them and a few more I could think of to tell you guys.



1.Listen to your favorite (positive) song and sing along.

Music can change your mood in a second, listen to your favorite song and sing if you can and dance around like crazy! (I do that a lot)

2. Write about what's bothering you and don't forget to write about what you're grateful for.

Writing things down can release stress and anxiety, it helps you get your things off your chest and no one has to ever see it. Also, write a few things you're grateful for so that you remind yourself how blessed you are. This will help you see things from a different perspective.

3. Do some cardio. 

Even if you don't feel like it. Working out will stimulate blood flow and release endorphins that will help you feel better.

4. Sign out of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

When you're having a bad day it's not a good idea to check your social media since everyone posts about their positive things. You can't help but compare yourself to others and, some days, social media is a really bad idea.

5. Pet an animal.

Whenever I'm having a bad day I just like to play with my dogs and hug them, which they hate sometimes; but it makes me feel a lot less stressed.

6. Take some alone time.

Take a bath, go to the beach or for a walk by yourself. You make time for others so why not make time for you?

7. Meditate.

I've talked before about the benefits of meditation, when you're having a bad day this is always a good idea.

8. Treat yourself.

Sometimes you need to eat the damn cake!

9. Help out a stranger.

Buy food for that homeless man you see everyday in the street, help an old lady cross the street... This will take the focus out of your own problems when you realize there are others that might have it worse.

10. Laugh.

Watch something funny on YouTube, read something funny, anything that will make you laugh. Haven't you heard Laughter is the best medicine?

10 things to do before I turn 30: Bucket list.

As some of you know from a previous post, I turned 26 last month. Age has always been a tough subject for me, ever since I turned 18, I've had this fear of growing old. 

Recently I started taking things different, I realized it wasn't about growing old, it was about all the things I didn't accomplished from my "plan"; but I am slowly learning to accept things NEVER turn out the way we want them to be, and sometimes that's a huge blessing.

However, I put together a list of things I would like to do before I turn 30, hopefully I get to do some of them!




1. Write a book. This is the first thing on my list because I actually started writing my book a while ago, hopefully I finish it soon!

2. Roadtrip across Europe: it's always been my dream to get in the car and go wherever I can.

3. Live in New York: even if it's for just a month, I NEED TO LIVE IN NEW YORK!

4. Be a Sea Shepherd: I love whales and dolphins and before I turn 30 I want to go to Taiji and help keep dolphins safe, at least as many as I can. I know it would break my heart to see that in person, but it's something I need to do.

5. Swim with dolphins in the ocean: CAPTIVITY KILLS!

6. Go bungee jumping or skydiving.

7. Sign up for an acting class.

8. Run a marathon: make it to the finish line!

9. Unplug for a week: it's kind of like a detox from today's world where technology rules everything. I'd like to disconnect and see the world from a different perspective.

10. Travel the world: China, Cambodia, Thailand, Alaska, Australia... everywhere!
